Book Review: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck a Book by Mark Manson

This phenomenal book titled, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” written by Mark Manson is a generation-defining self-help guidebook. It stresses the fact that we need to stop trying to be optimistic all the time so that we can truly become better, happier, and wholesome versions of ourselves.

Since time immemorial we have been made to preach that being a positive thinker will lead us to a happy and rich life. But this book is surely not supporting this ideology. The author does not sugarcoat the numerous problems of life and talks reality straight face.

Mark Manson calls out the let’s-all-feel-good mindset as a façade and quotes it to be a plague that has infected the society at large and has corrupted an entire generation of people.

Mason has provided some very solid and logical arguments against the ‘be-positive’ culture that is also a root cause of toxic positivity that young people suffer from. He has offered some very valid and meaningful academic researched content along with well-timed limericks to explain that improving one’s life does not depend on their ability to make lemonade out of lemons. It rather depends on learning to digest the lemons better.

Human beings are extremely flawed and have limited potential. Not every individual can be extraordinary and achieve out-of-the-box things in life. Life is a culmination of ups and downs.

Some are going to be winners and some losers. And most times than not, life may seem to be extremely unfair and unjust without any fault of our own.

The author – Mark Manson doesn’t encourage us to strive for perfection mindlessly, neither does he advises achieving the unrealistic. He rather tells us to understand and get familiar with our limitations and accept them, instead of trying to fight them.

Once we begin embracing our fears, faults, and uncertainties, we start to realize who we truly are. Once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.

There are only so many things we can give a f*ck about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, and this book helps us in clearing those things out and separating them from our lives. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded, and wholesome lives.

It breaks through our delusional mindsets and helps us see our lives for what it is worth. It is a book that needs to be read out by every person because nothing can get as real as the ideas and words of this book. The narrative of this book is honest, raw, real, and grasping. A must-read without a doubt.
