After a span of seven years since the incident that still has the cable operator wired with immense fear, the Salgaonkar family leads an apparently peaceful and luxurious life with the locals resorting to rumors to contain their envy. Vijay’s dream is colorfully screening through a movie theatre of his own and the prospect of producing his movie with the famous screenwriter “Murad Ali”.

However, the appearance of a new police officer, with his sources tagging the suspects around, begins to sniff the decaying truth that calls to be unearthed. And so their peace and dreams start to crumble as the past claws itself out from its grave.

Careful preservation of Vijay’s portrayal by Ajay Devgan, with his various hues trying to overpower each other at all times, and Tabu’s grief that doesn’t let justice slip away like sand through fingers, lands much-required gravity to the whole plot. Making sure that the twists and turns don’t disintegrate into a void.

What follows is a well-balanced duel between two acts that emerge out of familial love, striking at the core of their moral grounds. The writers then deftly weave a patchwork of past and present, that slowly but eventually guides the audience toward a remarkable climax.

Yet, the climax would be the only leading factor of the plot that should prompt one to sit through almost 2.5 hours of it. Picking up from the perplexing state of events Drishyam had left us with and beginning with a smirking calm, this sequel attempts hard at making a long jump towards fulfilling the expectations but ends up falling in the cracks.

It is perhaps to be owed to the high expectations that a sequel which is also a remake has to carry, but though the plot basically places itself at one’s disposal to be extracted for intense thrill and suspense, Drishyam 2 lags behind in continuing the legacy of its prequel’s intriguing aspects.

Since we are already familiar with the ways Vijay tries to be one step ahead of the police to safeguard his family, we also end up being one step ahead of the storyline of the movie. Yet, the quick-on-the-trigger one-liners by Aamil Keeyan Khan jerk our brains awake whenever the plot turns too slow and the protagonists’ actions too readable.

The movie’s intensity could have been considerably increased by reducing the running time of the first half, which is just an unnecessary drag.

Lastly, considering that it’s a remake, Drishyam 2 might prove to be a thrilling piece for those who haven’t watched the original version leggi l’articolo completo. But, it fails to create an air of authenticity around itself for those who have basked in the unmatched cinematic experience of the Malayali Drishyam-2.
